Vayam is led by a unique team, possessing a blend of diverse experiences in policy making, rural livelihood, enterprise scale-up, techno-commerce and strategy. At the helm are:


Mr Vijay Mahajan

The Founder and Chairman of the BASIX Group. He is a distinguished alumnus of both the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (1970-75) and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (1979-81) and was a mid-career fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public International Affairs, Princeton University, USA. He conceptualised BASIX as a "new generation rural livelihood promotion institution" and it was set up in mid 1996. Vayam furthers this vision to foster sustainable rural livelihood through enhanced access to energy and water

Mr Nilesh Jain

He has over 20 years of diverse experience including start-up venture, management consulting, and CSR. Before joining Basix, he was the Head CSR at the Cairn India where he implemented several initiatives in skill development, farm based livelihood, water and solar energy. His passion is to create sustainable business model to provide livelihoods to rural people. He also worked with the Boston Consulting Group providing consulting to energy, financial services and consumer goods companies across the globe.
He holds a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Masters in Systems Engineering from San Jose State University and MBA from the University of Chicago.



Mr Manoj Gupta

An MBA with a grounding in field operations through the pharma sector, having spent a major part of 20 years in operations management, sales and HR. In his 5+ years at Basix he was instrumental in successful rollouts of the CSC channels, streamlining the Basix Academy operations and systematizing the business HR function of Basix Sub-K. At Vayam, as the head of operations and sales, he is putting his varied experiences to work for building a performance-driven culture
